CIA badges

CIA BADGES

What it looks like

The badge is the standard ID size. It is a vertical badge with a blue background (a blue color somewhere between navy & royal).

The top 3rd of the ID is a photograph of the person against a white backround.

On the lower half is a 6-7 digit number.

On the back is a few lines asking that if the badge is found it be returned to a non-descript address.

There is a standard “rectangle-like” slit on the top and it’s worn on a lanyard around the neck.

How it works

The card is put into an optical laser reader. The employee punches in an ID number (not the one written on the card) it matches with one in the system.

Protocol

Everyone wears a badge.

The badge is only shown upon entering the secure area.

Often the employee will know where the camera is and simply hold their ID card up. The Security person on the other end will see the badge, recognize the face and let you in.

The card must be used to enter and leave.

The CIA is very protective of their badges so if an officer is going in to talk to someone such as a walk-in, they would remove their badge before doing so.

Visitors

Visitors are issued a laminated badge similar to the employee badge.

It is a bright red color with a large white V on the front.
